Boarding School Q&A 2022

Post Date: 2022-09-07

Pupils are back to boarding school this week. Although is away from home, parents would still miss them and may have worried about what their life at the boarding school. We have got some Q&A on what you would get worried about and hope you can worry less.

Q: How is a day in a boarding school?

A: Pupils at the boarding school are usually not much different from a day school pupil. The main difference is that they live in or near the school campsite. Get up, get changed, healthy breakfast then school time. One of the benefits is that they can go back to the boarding house during break and there are always good areas to relax or study.

Q: Is my child allowed to call me?

A: Pupils may not be allowed to use their phones on campus during school time. However, they can use their phone to contact their parents and friends at a specific time. It is usually at around 6 pm. It is understood that some boarding pupils may have a time difference with their families. In this sense, pupils can request another time slot to make a phone call with their parents, for instance, in the morning before the lesson starts.

Q: My child didn’t call me for days. Is he doing okay?

A: Boarding people call their family more often when they first go to boarding school. But then, they will make fewer phone calls as they get used to boarding life. Bear in mind that no news is good news. Pupils usually call their parents because of homesickness. If your child did not ring you, they are probably enjoying their boarding life. Sometimes it is best for you to make the first call after a while.

Q: Will I be told if my child gets hurt at school?

A: There are clinics and nurses in boarding schools. Nurses will be available 24/7, and the surgery doctor on duty once or twice a week. Usually, parents will not get notified if their children got minor injuries. However, the school will call their parents if their child is involved in serious injuries.

Q: Is it possible for me to pick up my child apart from the exeat and half term?

A: Your can meet your children at home during exeat and half term. Also, they can go out of school on Saturday and Sunday. However, you can request to pick up your children from school if you have an emergency.
