Our last post was talking about the Summer Camp in the UK. According to the British Immigration Rules, since the Summer Camp are short course that last less than 6 months, an overseas student who is holding a Visitor Visa is good enough and do not require to apply for a Student Visa. In case a course is over 6 months, an overseas student is required to apply for Student Visa, and today we will be looking at the different types of Student visas available in the UK.
Study English in the UK (Short term student visa)
This is a short-term Student Visa only for those who come for an English Language course. The length of the course would be between 6 and 11 months.
- The application fee is £ 200 plus a Healthcare surcharge.
For courses length from 12 months, the type of student visa would be different depending on the pupil’s age:
Child Student Visa
For pupils who are aged between 4 & 17 and planning to study at an independent school.
Application Fee
- £ 363 - For outside of UK application (Applicant should get a decision within 3 weeks)
- £ 490 - For local application. For switching or extend of their current Visa (Applicant should get a decision within 8 weeks. Application must be submitted before the expiration of the current Visa. The new course must be started within 28 days of the current Visa expiration)
Student Visa
For pupils aged over 16.
Application Fee
- £ 363 - For outside of UK application (Applicant should get a decision within 3 weeks)
- £ 490 - For local application. For switching or extend of their current Visa (Applicant should get a decision within 8 weeks. Application must be submitted before the expiration of the current Visa. The new course must be started within 28 days of the current Visa expiration)
Documents for application
- Valid passport or travel document.
- Prove the fund on supporting the tuition fee and living for 1 academic year (Max 9 months)
- £1,334 per month if the institution is based within London (the City of London and the 32 London boroughs).
- £1,023 per month if the institution is based outside of London.
- Applicant’s tuberculosis (TB) test results.
- Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from the course provider.
- If the applicant is aged under 18, parents' or legal guardian consent is needed. They may also require a guardian in the UK, take a look at our list of the Guardians Service Providers.
Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)
The above-mentioned Visas are required to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS). The cost is £ 470 per 12 months. If the Student Visa is given lasts for 2 years, the IHS would be £ 940.
