Do you want to know the way to find out a secondary school is good at pupils Progress or Attainment or both?

Post Date: 2021-08-18

The Department for Education introduced "Progress 8" in 2016. This measurement shows the level of value-added to the pupils during their study after primary school (Key Stage 2) and at the end of secondary school (Key Stage 4/ GCSE).

The score is between 1 and -1, where 0 is the national average score.
When a score is a positive number, it means the pupils at the school were making good progress.
When a score is a negative number, it means the pupils at the school were making worse progress. But it does not mean that the final result of the pupils is worse as it is only indicating the progress.

Parents should also look at the "Attainment 8" data of the school. This data was measured the 8 subjects when pupils take the GCSE level exam (Key Stage 4/ Year 11).

Parents should always compare these data with the Local Authority and nationally for a better picture.
