Post Date: 2021-10-29

Issues related to school parking can have an impact on you as a local resident in a given area and could endanger your children. Being aware of such issues and knowing how to mitigate them is very important for children safety and for you.

When parking nearby schools there are many potential issues that you should be considering. First and foremost, you should look out and ensure to prevent the following:

- Causing visibility issues to drivers and people walking over the pavement.

- Blocking access to emergency services, buses or private property entrance.

This can be avoided by being aware of what all the different sorts of signs mean to avoid harming children and people alike and avoid hefty fines. So, what are the different signs that you should be mindful of?

-Yellow zig-zag lines: indicate the length of the road where stopping or waiting is strictly prohibited.

-Double yellow line: stopping or waiting is strictly prohibited.

-Single yellow line: parking during specific days and times is prohibited.

Apart from the various rules, you should also be aware of The School Street Scheme, which is aimed at improving the local air quality and facilitating walking and cycling to school for both parents and children.

Finally, by abiding by the rules and restrictions you will avoid Parking tickets, or commonly known as Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).
